AHC was incorporated on July 24, 1995 in response to the finding of a local housing needs assessment. The 1994 study reported that the rate of homeownership was slipping and one-third of renters were paying more than 30% of their income for housing.
The mission of Affordable Housing Corporation is to improve housing, neighborhood and economic conditions for individuals and communities.
Education/Counseling programs link participants with resources to build and maintain assets through instruction, guidance, networking and advocacy.
- Housing Counseling provides rental counseling, pre- and post- purchase counseling, foreclosure prevention and loss mitigation counseling and home equity conversion (reverse) mortgage counseling.
- Individual Development Accounts (IDA) match the savings of qualified individuals to purchase a home, start/expand a business and pay costs associated with accredited education/employment training.
- Microenterprise Venture Partnerships (MVP) provide access to loan capital, training and technical assistance for entrepreneurs who are starting or expanding a business with less than five employees.
Single-Family housing construction and Home Owner repair programs provide affordable and sustainable homeownership opportunities. This includes Greenway Crossing.
Rental Housing programs are affordable apartments and townhomes developed, owned, or sponsored by AHC including Thomas Jefferson (24 units), Hunter's Run (72 units), Emerson (8 units) and Springhill (36 units).
Project Development/Management programs conduct activities to research, network, develop, facilitate, write and administer housing and community projects for organizations other than AHC. This includes Greenway Crossing and other grant projects.
