Due to Indiana’s status as a “Hardest Hit” state by the double threat of unemployment and foreclosure rates, the US Department of Treasury awarded funds to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to help Hoosiers keep their homes. The Hardest Hit Fund offers up to $30,000.00 of assistance to reinstate your mortgage, pay your monthly mortgage payments, provide a loan modification for an affordable interest rate, and has a grant available for moving costs.
To be eligible for assistance you must own and live in your home, and have experienced one of the following involuntary financial hardships:
- unemployment or underemployment at no fault of your own
- non-elective medical procedures with a high out-of-pocket cost
- military hardship
- death of contributing household member
- divorce hardship
Funds received under the program are secured by a lien or mortgage against your home. This mortgage is interest free, and there are no payments unless you sell or move out of your home within the first 10 years.
